dot  Distinguished Guest Speaker — J. Patrick Walker, MD, FACS

Dr. Walker obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), where he also completed his internship and general surgery residency training. Prior to joining the UTMB faculty, Dr. Walker was in private practice at the Houston County Hospital in Crockett, Texas, where he trained family practice residents from Texas A&M and medical students in rural surgery. He served as Chief of Surgery there and was a member of the hospital board for 25 years. He is a senior director of the American Board of Surgery, a governor of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Southern Surgical Association and a number of other professional organizations. While a director of the American Board of Surgery he served as chair of the Recertification Exam Committee and on the Credentials Committee. He recently served on the "Sprint Committee," which created the new "ABS Continuing Certification Program." Dr. Walker’s special interests include surgical education, rural/community surgery, and acute care surgery. He has authored a number of papers, SESAP, and book chapters; most recently on "Venomous Bites and Stings."

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the UT Health San Antonio Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. The Long School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Long School of Medicine designates this live activity up to a maximum of 14.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™.. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The ABS MOC Program is an initiative of the American Board of Surgery. This activity provides AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™. and self-assessment credits toward Part 2 of the ABS MOC Program.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Emma, 136 E. Grayson St., San Antonio, Texas 78215. The single/double occupancy guest room rate, subject to availability, is $295/night plus taxes and fees. The “cut-off date” for reserving rooms in the Room Block is May 16, 2018. Reservation requests received after the cut-off date will be based on availability at the hotel’s prevailing rates. All spouses are invited and encouraged to attend! Please use the annual meeting registration form to register for this activity. Please arrive by 6:30 p.m.

Lunch (on your own) – Saturday, June 16, 2018; Noon (approximate)
Please plan to have lunch at one of the many delicious restaurants at the Pearl with members, faculty, housestaff, guests and families.

J. Kent Trinkle Alumni Cocktail Event — Saturday, June 16, 2018; 10 p.m.
The J. Kent Trinkle Alumni Cocktail Event will be held in the Courtyard at the Hotel Emma. The event this year will be an informal gathering (no registration is required).

Golf Tournament — Sunday, June 17, 2018; Tee Times Begin at 8 a.m. (meet at 7:30 a.m.)
The golf tournament will be held at The Quarry Golf Club at 444 E. Basse Rd. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. The format will be a four-player scramble and the cost is $75 per person. Members are encouraged to sponsor a resident for this event. Guests are welcome. Please use the annual meeting registration form to register for this activity. Please plan to meet in the pro shop at 7:30 a.m.

Sporting Clays — Sunday, June 17, 2018, 9 a.m.
The sporting clay event will be held at the National Shooting Complex at 5931 Roft Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78253 (210-254-1537), beginning at 9 a.m. The National Shooting Complex will provide certified instructors, loaner guns (you may also bring your own), ammunition, eye and ear protection, and beverages. Fifty sporting clays will be offered to each participant at a cost of $110. Members are encouraged to sponsor a resident for this event. Guests are welcome. Please use the annual meeting registration form to register for this activity. Please plan to meet in the hotel lobby by 8:20 a.m.
